The ultimate destination for arriving ships was Veracruz, a hot, muggy seaport with numerous brothels and sleazy bars. Here the ships took on silver bullion mined in the mountains and coins primarily minted in Mexico City. Exotic goods from Asia were also taken on board here after having been transported across Mexico.
