Distribution:
Africa and Asia

Features:
Arm and leg proportions close to those of modern humans; low, heavy braincase with prominent browridges

Homo erectus is very near human, with an adult height probably approaching 6 feet (1.8 meters). The brain has enlarged to the size of a one-year-old modern human’s. These are likely the first hominids to leave Africa.

Note: Some researchers divide hominids of this era into two species, H. erectus and H. ergaster.
