Pyroclastic flows (ash-filled gas clouds) and rockfalls tumble down the sides of the dome of Soufriere Hills volcano in February 2003. These 1,000-degree-Fahrenheit (540-degree-Celsius) flows moved at a hundred miles (160 kilometers) an hour, destroying nearly everything along the way.
