Build a Wetland
Wetlands are one way nature restores rivers. See for yourself how wetlands filter pollutants, help prevent soil erosion, and reduce flood damage by building your own watershed. (For more cool activities for kids, go to the Southwest Florida Water Management District Web site.) (Southwest Florida Water Management District)

Model Your Watershed
Everyone in a watershed shares the same water, so you need to protect the water quality in your watershed. To get a handle on your connection to rivers, build a model watershed. (Directions are on page 4. Download a free copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader to view this file.) For fun, tour a “virtual” watershed (with alligators!) at the Southwest Florida Water Management District Web site. (Southwest Florida Water Management District)

Create a Collage
Make a collage or a poster to help everyone appreciate rivers. Let your imagination run as wild and free as a river! (Speaking of “free,” decorate your posters with “rivery” clip art.) To get ideas for your collage, go to any Student activity in the Educator/Student Activities, then click on “Other Related Web Sites for Students.” (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency)
