Bathed by the glow of a rising sun, mother and daughter rest atop a rock at the foot of Geiranger Fjord in Romsdal, Norway. About two million years ago, glaciers whittled gorges into Norway's rocky coast. Those gorges filled with water from surrounding seas, giving the country its famed, feathered coastline of fjords.
