Printing Instructions - Premium High Gloss Photo Paper

PRINT LIKE THE PROS

INSTRUCTIONS

National Geographic Premium Photo paper is made with a special high-gloss, polymer coating that captures the rich, vivid color of your images. Once dry, this coating actually protects and preserves your prints so that future generations can enjoy them as well. Imagine what paper good enough for the pros at National Geographic can do for your photo prints.

Factors affecting image quality are photographic/digital image and printer used, software, scanner, digital camera, file format, printer model, ink brand, ink coverage, temperature, and humidity.

Since all pigment and dye inks change over time, for optimal, long-lasting professional results, prints should be displayed under glass in a picture frame or protected in a photo album.

Premium High Gloss

Please follow the recommendations below, along with the guidelines provided in your printer manual.

This product is specially coated for ink-jet use and printable only on the glossy side. Premium High Gloss is not suitable for use with laser printers and copiers.

For Epson UltraChromeTM ink (models R800, 1800, 2200) please use National Geographic Professional Ultra Gloss for best results.

Paper Handling and Storage

  • Avoid touching the glossy side before and after printing. Natural oils from your skin can leave residue that may affect your final print.
  • Allow your prints to dry 12–24 hours* before excessive handling, cutting, framing, or placing into a protective sleeve. Although your prints may appear dry to the touch, moisture remains in the print and will need time to completely dry.
  • For optimum results, avoid exposure to excessive heat, light, or moisture.
  • Return unused product to original package and store in a dark place away from high temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight.

* For Epson DURABrite® inks, allow 48 hours to dry. For quicker drying time, use National Geographic Professional High Definition Photo Paper.

Printer Settings

Select the highest quality photo glossy paper setting for your printer, typically referred to as "premium photo paper" or "glossy photo paper." It should be noted that the "plain" paper setting may also produce high-quality results on some ink-jet printers. The "auto" mode under the paper type will usually adjust the remaining settings accordingly.

Tips for Better Print Quality

  • Familiarize yourself with your printer's capabilities and options. Refer to your printer manual.
  • Follow the recommendations in your printer manual for optimal print sizes.
  • Make sure the printer cartridges are properly aligned and perform any additional maintenance as necessary (usually located in printer dialog box or printer tool box).
  • If available, use a photo ink cartridge. This will usually produce superior, smoother color reproduction.

Your prints will be more robust and vibrant if you allow extra time for the ink to dry thoroughly after printing, especially in humid conditions.
