It’s official! The United States Navy’s newest oceanographic survey vessel will be named U.S.N.S. Bruce C. Heezen, after an American oceanographer known for his work on plate tectonics and seafloor mapping. The winning entry in the first ever American Student Ship Naming Competition came from a group of fifth-graders from Oak Lawn Elementary School in Cranston, Rhode Island.
