Teton Sioux

A Teton Sioux portraying one of his forefathers

The Lewis & Clark production team hired members of specific tribes featured in each scene to portray their ancestors.

In the early 1800s there were over 170 tribes and hundreds of thousands of people living on the plains, in the mountains, and on the coasts west of the Mississippi. The expedition encountered nearly 50 of those tribes.
