October 1, 1804, along the Cheyenne River, South Dakota.
 

Description
A small, rounded shrub. Height: 30 in (80 cm). Flowers tiny, yellow, in slender, leafy, 8-in (20-cm) spikes.
 

Habitat
Meadows, plains, streamsides.
 

Range
Oregon and California east to Minnesota, Nebraska, and New Mexico.
