March 29, 1806, near the mouth of Lewis's River, Washington.
Brown to reddish above and reddish to orange (never yellow) below. Length: 2-4 in (5.1-10.2 cm).
Generally found in fairly extensive wetland environments.
Isolated localities in southwestern British Columbia and western Washington and Oregon. It formerly ranged into northeastern California.
