Townsend's Mole
Scapanus townsendii

A large mole. Black fur. Short, thick, nearly naked tail. Nearly naked snout. Eyes tiny but visible. Length: 7.8–9.3 in (19.5–24 cm); tail: 1.3–2 in (3.4–5.1 cm).
Meadows, fields, and lawns.
Pacific coast, from extreme southern British Columbia to northern California.
