Fuzzy, oval-shaped, notched leaves. Blooms in late winter/early spring (February through April), with tiny flowers, about 1 in (2 cm) long. Nuts ready for harvest in summer, about 5/8 in (15 mm) long. Usually a woody deciduous shrub, 5 to 10 ft (2 to 3 m) tall.
