Oregon Boxleaf is a member of the staff tree or bittersweet family (family Celastraceae), which includes shrubs, woody vines, and mostly small trees. Leaves alternate or opposite, sometimes whorled, simple, with tiny stipules or none. Flowers tiny; usually in clusters with stalks mostly jointed. Fruit: a capsule, berry, or drupe; the seed generally with colored covering.
