March 15, 1806, at Fort Clatsop, Oregon.
 

Description
Woody evergreen shrub growing to 6-8 ft (1.8-2.4 m). Strong stalks with leaves in a triangular pattern. Small white flowers bloom in clusters. Medium-size berry that is black to dark purple in color when ripe.
 

Habitat
Commonly found in woodlands and parks in full sun.
