Conservationists became puzzlers in order to reconstruct the badly damaged
Gospel of Judas. The ancient text had missing papyruses, rearranged pages,
and nearly 1,000 scattered fragments. But an expert team restored order from
the chaosand rescued a story that had been lost for 1,700 years.

THE GOSPEL NEARLY LOST
The Gospel of Judas survived some 1,700 years in hiding,
but was nearly destroyed in only a few decades.

THE GOSPEL SAVED
A dedicated team spent five years unveiling a nearly complete Gospel of Judas
from what had seemed a hopelessly damaged codex.

THE NEXT 1,700 YEARS
Conservators have taken great pains to ensure that the Gospel of Judas will be seen by future generations.
