Words from our former senior editor for photography. Dickinsons insights into his work. Biography |
Born in Birmingham, England, in 1959, Nigel Gordon Dickinson is a freelance photographer with a yen for documenting the lives of those at the margins of modern society. His subjects have included squatters in South Africa, miners on strike in Great Britain, and indigenous peoples in Southeast Asia. His work has been widely exhibited and published in major newspapers and magazines, including the Independent, the Guardian, Stern, and Geo. He was awarded a prize by the United Nations Environment Programme in 1992 and a World Press Award in 1997. His clients also include advocacy groups such as Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace. It is very difficult, he says, to strike a balance between work and leisure. When he succeeds in carving out leisure time, Dickinson enjoys snowboarding, reading, and aikido. |
