Biography

Canadian native Rodney White poses with a chief’s ceremonial canoe paddle, but his teenage impatience grew with every exposure. I was at a Canada Day celebration on the Queen Charlotte Islands off British Columbia. To a greater extent than in recent generations, young Canadian natives are learning the stories and traditions of their culture. Showing honor to elders and respect for ceremony seemed natural and not self-conscious to most of them.
