Biography

A GITAN GIRL’S PRAYER
May 1994
Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer

“The church crypt, lit by hundreds of candles, is burning like a furnace. Flickering flames dance across blackened stone walls. Gypsies file down from the church hall, patiently awaiting their turn to pay homage to Sainte Sara. They stare into her eyes and kiss their palms, touching them to Sara’s forehead. Small children are lifted up to kiss her face.”
