Biography

“Thousands of pilgrims, fully dressed, wade into the Mediterranean surf as cherished statues of patron saints appear to float above them. In the foreground, members of the Baptiste family help shoulder the figures. This is my family; I was adopted by them. The love between us in many ways determined the course of my work. I am working from the inside—not a spectator but one emotionally involved.”
