HONOR GUARD May 1995 Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer Pikes and flag aloft, local horsemen stand in the breaking surf. Their job is to flank the Gypsy procession, fending off media cohorts. We work in waist-deep water, with our cameras held high and our film in plastic bags. Were tripping over each other, fighting for the best camera angle, watching our feet, avoiding any stray hoof. |
