Biography

“Pilou Rey, youngest daughter of my Gitan family, proudly shows me her drawing of Sainte Sara. (The family had just returned from the festivities at Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer.) She is so excited about her drawing that she demands I take a picture of her with it. Whenever I visit my Gypsy friends, I bring hundreds of photos; it gives them such joy. They will not allow me to pay for a thing, but they always want prints of their pictures!”
