“Mayday!” It’s a call every seafarer dreads. It means that somewhere nearby, a boat—and the people aboard it—is in distress, due to an accident, equipment failure, or sudden storms.

Mayday! Lost at Sea recounts three tragic events: the sinking of a fishing boat off Maine that claimed two lives, the loss of seven men from one Scottish community, and the deaths of 14 men from a single Washington State town—the worst commercial fishing accident on record.

These men and these boats never returned from their trips to open waters. Like many others every year they were lost to the sea.
