A 2005 UNODC report stated there are about 920,000 drug users in Afghanistan, representing 1.4 percent of the adult population.

More than half of the world's opiate-addicts live in Asia. The highest levels of abuse occur along the main drug-trafficking routes out of Afghanistan, the UN reported.
