Chilean authorities are evacuating residents from the town, which lies about 75 miles (120 kilometers) east of the Chaitin volcano.

"The Chaitin volcano is still active, emitting ash. The direction of the plume is toward Futaleufz, where it has heaped up 30 centimeters [12 inches] of ash," Chile's National Emergency Office said in a statement Monday, according to the AFP news agency.
