POTIONS AND POISONS
Blue-ringed octopuses make one of the deadliest poisons in the world. The poison is in their saliva, and they use it to paralyze struggling crabs. The poison also makes a good defense against enemies. One blue-ringed octopus, smaller than your hand, has enough poison to kill many humans. They let everybody know how dangerous they are by displaying big blue rings. All the other sea creatures keep out of their way.
MAGICAL MOVES
Most octopuses are poor swimmers. They usually get around using their arms to crawl along the ocean bottom. However, they can squeeze through tiny holes as if they were moving from room to room through keyholes. Many octopuses can bury themselves in sand or mud. Some can even swim through the sand, sticking up an eye like a periscope every now and then to see if the coast is clear. One octopus, the argonaut, spends its life swimming in the open ocean in a shell it builds. The argonaut uses it almost like a canoe.
