ESCAPE ARTIST

If disguises don't work, octopuses can disappear in a sort of smoke screen. A small squirt of concentrated ink squeezed out its backside forms a cloud that looks like underwater smoke. It confuses an attacker long enough for a quick escape.

WAND POWER

The blanket octopus uses deadly "wands" to fend off attackers. It steals a couple of stinging tentacles from a jellyfish. Holding them in its upper arms, the octopus shows the tentacles to an approaching enemy, warning it to stay away.
