Bongo Marie, an African gray parrot, didn't get along with Paco, another parrot. "She was always picking on Paco," says Sally Blanchard, a parrot behavior expert from Loveland, Colorado.
One night Blanchard was cooking dinner. Pulling a small hen out of the oven, she set the steaming bird on the kitchen counter to carve. Curious, Bongo Marie moved in for a closer look. "Oh, no. Paco!" the parrot shrieked, tossing her head and laughing like a maniac.
"That's not Paco," said Blanchard, laughing herself. She showed Bongo Marie that Paco was in the next room. "Oh...no," repeated Bongo Marie, this time sounding disappointed. "I'm convinced she knew it was funny," says Blanchard. The parrot then seemed to laugh at her own joke.
