The Lipizzaners are one of the oldest breeds of horses in Europe, dating back more than 400 years. They were bred for their strength and acrobatic abilities.
Today the stallions bred by the Spanish Riding School (SRS) of Vienna, Austria, are the most precisely trained acrobatic horses in the world. They show off their skills in performances for audiences around the world.
Most Lipizzaners are born black and eventually turn white by the age of ten. For nearly four years, the young stallions live in a herd in the country. Then caregivers and trainers select the best horses to train and bring them to Vienna.
After about eight years of careful training, the Lipizzaners are ready to perform.
