burning questions with author Lemony Snicketphoto: Lemony Snicket

Introduction | Questions: Part I | Questions: Part II

National Geographic Kids (NGK) reporter Dylan interviews author Lemony Snicket (also known as Daniel Handler (DH)).

READ IF YOU DARE
NGK: Tell me about the latest book.
DH: It's called The Carnivorous Carnival. Mr. Snicket informed me that the Baudelaire orphans find themselves in disguise at a carnival. It sounds like a most unpleasant book, so I'm not planning on reading it.

CALAMITOUS CURIOSITY
NGK: Why is Mr. Snicket so interested in the Baudelaire orphans?
DH: He wanted to make sure that people knew just how miserable and sad these children's lives are.

RESCUE ATTEMPT
NGK: If Mr. Snicket could send a superhero to help the orphans, who would it be, and why?
DH: Maybe Wonder Woman. She had that lasso that forced people to tell the truth. The Baudelaire orphans would like to find out a lot, so a truth lasso would be quite handy.

IF THEY GROW UP
NGK: What careers do you think Violet, Klaus, and Sunny will choose when they grow up?
DH: With her mechanical mind, Violet might end up being an engineer or some sort of scientist. With his interest in research, Klaus could be a journalist like you or a professor or perhaps even a lawyer. Lately Sunny seems more interested in cooking—maybe it's because she's had so much trouble finding food that she enjoys eating with her sharp teeth.
