Billy B., the talented, award-winning writer and
performer of music about natural science, celebrates
the natural world and its wonders with a rousing
musical warm-up for the Rock Creek Park BioBlitz,
May 18-19. Through the sounds of rhythm and blues,
hip-hop and ska, along with some high-energy
dancing, the entire family can learn about the bugs,
birds, bats, and other creatures that live in Rock
Creek Park, one of the country’s first federal parks.
Thrill to songs like “Flies in Black,” a parody of
“Men in Black” about biological indicators of water
quality. Display your own moves with “Shake Their
Butt and Dance,” a song illustrating how honeybees
communicate with one other. And of course, you
won’t want to miss a round of rousing songs about
biodiversity or the debut of Billy B.’s new song
heralding the BioBlitz.

The Rock Creek Park BioBlitz, presented and sponsored
by National Geographic and the National Park
Service, is a 24-hour inventory of the species in Rock
Creek Park, Friday-Saturday, May 18-May 19, noon-noon.
Teams of scientists, naturalists, and volunteers
will comb the park’s 1,755 acres, observing and
recording as many species as possible. Bring your
family and friends to the park and help experts
count the park’s inhabitants. The goals of the BioBlitz
are to add to species lists for as many taxonomic
groups as possible and to increase public awareness
about biodiversity in an urban environment.
