2.  SEWAGE MOVEMENT
Household sewage pipes flow into larger pipes running along city blocks. They in turn go deeper down into large sewers. Until completion of the North River sewage treatment plant, raw sewage from Manhattan’s Upper West Side was dumped untreated into the Hudson. Today, during heavy rains, untreated overflow still pours into New York’s waterways.
