Protecting A UNIQUE WILDERNESS

In one of the most significant gifts of private land worldwide, Goldman Sachs has partnered with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) to preserve 700,000 acres (283,000 hectares) of beautiful wilderness in Tierra del Fuego, Chile. After acquiring a portfolio of loans secured by unspoiled land in South America, Goldman Sachs transferred the Chilean land, including the world's southernmost old-growth forests, to WCS. Goldman Sachs, the Goldman Sachs Charitable Fund, WCS and an advisory board of Chilean citizens are working together to pursue sustainable development activities, including ecotourism, to support conservation objectives and benefit local communities in Chile. The first of its kind, this public-private partnership charts a future in which corporations support conservation.

Goldman Sachs is proud to be working in partnership with the Wildlife Conservation Society to establish a nature reserve that protects key ecological features found in this extraordinary part of the world. WCS is one of the most respected conservation institutions in the world, and together, Goldman Sachs and WCS are committed to preserving this land for the benefit of future generations.
