Photographer: Penny De Los Santos

Penny De Los Santos is an award-winning documentary photographer known for her sensitive and evocative photo essays and food, travel, and landscape photography.

Raised on the southern plains of Texas, she graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in journalism. Following a stint in New York and Dallas as a photography assistant, she worked for several small newspapers. After earning a master's degree in visual communications from Ohio University, she was named 1998 College Photographer of the Year by the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA). De Los Santos was also a National Geographic photography intern.

In 2000 she was selected for the prestigious World Press Master Class in Amsterdam. She has also been a featured speaker at industry workshops and universities worldwide. Her clients include Saveur Magazine, National Geographic, Sports Illustrated, Newsweek, Time, Latina, and Texas Monthly.

De Los Santos spent seven years photographing the Latino movement in the United States, an essay inspired by her family background on the Texas-Mexico border. This work was featured in National Geographic in the winter of 2006.

She is based in Austin, Texas.
