Hand-woven Thai Silk
In all sorts of colors, designs, and products. Silk is widely available, but for quality try Jim Thompson stores (www.jimthompson.com) or Almeta (www.almeta.com), which specializes in bespoke.

Amulets
Bangkok is the amulet capital of the world, and there are tens of thousands available in the atmospheric, covered amulet market in the small sois (side streets) off Th Maharat.

Thai Curry Pastes
Nittaya’s (carefully wrapped) curry pastes are famous across Thailand; drop into her busy shop at 136-140 Th Chakraphon. Vichit Mukura, chef at the Oriental Hotel’s upscale Sala Rim Naam restaurant, is another whose curry pastes are worth sampling.

Khon Masks
Traditionally worn in ceremonial dance, Khon masks require the maker to master carving, sculpting, painting, lacquering, and gilding. Each takes about three days to make.

Celadon
This high-fired stoneware with a cracked-glaze surface originated in the northern Thai city of Chiang Mai. Widely available, but for quality go to Thai Celadon at 8/8 New Rachadapisek Road, off Sukhumvit Road.
