Scoured and scarred, this Tongass hillside in the Hobart Bay area was left with a slender shoreline skirt of evergreen, to keep up appearances. Clear-cut old-growth stands may regain old-growth characteristics after 200 years. But logging is likely to recommence in less than a hundred.
