Baja California and the Sea of Cortés
Travel aboard the M.V. Sea Bird, for an unforgettable voyage to Baja California and the Sea of Cortés. Hike with naturalists on islands amid giant barrel cactuses, and kayak and snorkel among playful seal lions. Witness the magnificent migration of the gray whales from the deck of our ship and on explorations by Zodiac through the inlets of Bahía Magdalena, one of the main breeding grounds.
 ITINERARY: 8 DAYS

February 4 Los Angeles/La Paz
Arrive in La Paz and drive along the beautiful Malecon to meet the Sea Bird for embarkation.

February 5 Exploring the Sea of Cortés
Search for whales among the islands of the southern Sea of Cortés, one of the best areas for finding blue whales, and often bottlenose dolphins. Explore one of the many lovely, uninhabited islands such as Isla San Jose or Isla Santa Catalina, and walk among huge cacti, swim, snorkel, and observe the great diversity of bird life—verdins, ladder-backed woodpeckers, and Costa’s hummingbirds.

February 6 Islas Los Islotes and Espiritu Santo
At Los Islotes, snorkel and swim among curious sea lions. With deeply indented bays, Espiritu Santo may be the most beautiful island in the Sea of Cortés. This afternoon, swim, kayak, or hike. Brown pelicans, gulls, wandering tattlers, great blue herons, and boobies are all part of the landscape. Later, enjoy a barbecue on the beach.

February 7 Gorda Banks and Cabo San Lucas
The morning is spent at the Gorda Banks seamount, a gathering place for whales, especially humpbacks, as well as dolphins and other sea life. Later, cruise past Friars Rocks at Land’s End into Cabo San Lucas to explore this lively town.

February 8, 9, and 10 Bahía Magdalena
Bahía Magdalena, a vast wilderness of sand dunes, mangrove channels, and protected waters, is one of the main breeding and calving areas for California gray whales. Every year, gray whales migrate here from the Arctic waters of Alaska; it is the longest migration known for any mammal and is one of nature’s greatest spectacles. In this vast water nursery, observe these enormous yet gentle animals from the ship and at water level from our Zodiacs. Walk along sand dunes of incomparable beauty and discover dense mangroves by kayak. On the mud flats, spot migrating birds at rest.

February 11 San Carlos/La Paz/Los Angeles
After breakfast, disembark in San Carlos and drive across the peninsula to La Paz for the flight to Los Angeles.

 ABOUT THE M.V. SEA BIRD

M.V. Sea Bird Accommodating just 64 guests in 32 outside cabins, Sea Bird is large enough to operate in remote environments in comfort, yet small enough to enter ports and narrow inlets inaccessible to bigger ships. She carries sea kayaks and a fleet of Zodiacs, which can be launched at a moment’s notice, providing easy access to coastlines and other places of interest. Each cabin faces outside. All cabins have windows and are attractively and comfortably furnished with lower berths, private bathrooms, reading lights, and individual climate control.
