In October 1999, TRAVELER magazine published 50 Places of a Lifetime, an issue that showcased worldwide destinations all curious travelers should see before they pack their last suitcase. This month we unveil a red-white-and-blue version of the concept with an issue devoted to Americas 50 must-see places. Our highlighted 50 Places are divided into five categories. Which places we picked is a surprisesee for yourself by picking up a copy of the October 2001 issue at your nearest bookstore or subscribe online. But for now, we offer a glimpse of the categories that define our special picks.
