Noted photographer Jim Richardson turns his back on Floridas Mickey Mouse masses and takes his son through Everglades National Park and down onto the Florida Keys for some genuine adventure. On the Anhinga Trail in the Everglades, they glimpse a range of wildlife and even stumble upon a nine-foot (three-meter) alligator.

Night in the Everglades proves no less exciting as they skim across the fabled river of grass in an airboat. Once in the Keys, father and son swim with dolphins at the Dolphin Research Center, spend a night inside a lighthouse, and tour a string of islands from the air in an old biplane. The Dumbo Ride this is not.
