Ascending the heights of the Himalaya can be an accessible adventure even for those who aren’t expert climbers or invincible athletes. Writer William Gray and his wife, along with their porter, Tul, take an exhilarating and physically taxing 18-day journey along the legendary Annapurna Circuit.

Along the way, they hike past mountain villages, Buddhist shrines, and picturesque landscapes. After achieving the towering pass at Thorung La—17,000 feet (5,100 meters)—the adventurers begin their descent. They take in a final breathtaking view of the majestic mountains from the foggy top of Poon Hill.
