In the September issue of TRAVELER, we feature Vancouver, a
dynamic city in British Columbia. Here, listen to a sample from
Vancouver band Chilliwack for a distinctive West Coast sound
indigenous to the city.
Weve developed an online-only audio feature to give you a true
feel for a TRAVELER featured destination. In this issue, were
spotlighting Vancouver, so we searched for a band that composed
songs with a distinctive, West Coast sound indigenous to the city.
Our discovery: Chilliwack, a band formed in 1969, then reformed
in 1997 when bandleader Bill Henderson assembled a new group
of musiciansJerry Adolphe, Doug Edwards, and Ed
Hendersonto revive old hits and tour once again.
During the 1970s and 1980s the group made 12 albums, including
Chilliwack (London Parrot, 1969), Dreams, Dreams, Dreams
(Mushroom Records, 1977), and Wanna Be a Star (Solid Gold
Records, 1981). Last January the new Chilliwack performed at
Vancouvers Commodore Ballroom and recorded much of
Chilliwack Live, their first album since 1984. (To hear a sample,
youll need the free RealPlayer plug-in.) (For tour dates and CD
