Who are the Stewardship Heroes? They are the people in travel
and tourism who fight to keep the places you visit worth visitingand you can publicize their work. You may even get credit if your
nomination appears in TRAVELER.
How can you tell the heroes? They love the destination youve
come to see; they love showing it to you. They want you to sample
local cuisine, see local performances, support local crafts, and
learn local lore. They encourage architecture that suits the region,
and fight blight and pollution. They want tourism to encourage
wise stewardship, not enrich distant stockholders.
In short, they want their spot of the world to keep providing great
travel experiences.
Perhaps your candidate is an innkeeper or a superb guide. It might
be an ecotour operator who takes care to hire and train local
people, or a major travel company that sets tough environmental
standards. You can nominate any individual or company. (In the
September issue, for instance, TRAVELER reports on the
trailblazing pro-environment policies of the Canadian Pacificnow Fairmonthotel group.)
Tell the forum why you think your nominee(s) should be
recognized in the pages of TRAVELER.
