12 Unknown Caribbean Islands

Anegada

There's just one hotel, and flights to the island operate only four days a week. But  with nearly 20 miles of unblemished stretches of white sand, Anegada's northeast shoreline is a paradise for beach lovers.

Activities

Snorkeling
Watersports are the main draw. Snorkel on the north coast, but bring your own equipment because there are no dive shops. Shuttle buses to the island's best snorkeling sites—Loblolly Bay, Jack Bay, and Cow Wreck Bay—are available
for $8 round-trip at the Anegada Reef Hotel.

Bone-Fishing
Visitors can bone-fish in traditional wooden boats or modern vessels. Outfitter: Captain Clinton Vanterpool, who once took former President Carter on an expedition, offers exceptional half-day trips. Details: from $300 per person, including gear and bait; +1 284 495 8045.

Hotels

Anegada Reef Hotel
Though neither chic nor remarkable, the island's only hotel is convenient. Staff members can rent you a car for as low as $65 a day, and arrange kayak rentals and bone-fishing expeditions. Details: from $215 to $275, including three meals; +1 284 495 8002.

McLaughlin-Anderson Villas
The one villa on Anegada managed by McLaughlin-Anderson is optimally located for bone-fishing. Details: from $950 (double occupancy), $1,000 (up to four people), or $1,050 (up to six people); +1 340 776 0635 or 800 537 6246 (U.S. and Canada).

Restaurants

Anegada Reef Hotel
Try the barbecued swordfish. Details: open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner; $40; +1 284 495 8002.

Big Bamboo
Try the steamed lobster or conch. Details: $30; +1 284 495 2019.

Editor's note: Hotel rates are European Plan (EP), meaning meals aren't included, unless otherwise noted; rates reflect a nightly fee unless otherwise noted. Tax and service charges are not included. Rates are subject to change during promotions and peak seasons. Restaurant prices are for an average three-course dinner, nonalcoholic drink, tax, and tip.
