12 Unknown Caribbean Islands

Cayman Brac

Cayman Brac has 140-foot-high limestone cliffs and easy access to renowned dive sites such as Bloody Bay Wall.

Activities

Bird-Watching
Bird-watchers can spot parrots while hiking a mile-long loop trail in Brac Parrot Reserve at the top of a bluff. Go in early morning or afternoon when birds are most active. Transportation can be arranged by local hotels.

Diving
Check out the MV Captain Keith Tibbetts, a 330-foot Russian destroyer, which sank in 1996. Its radar mount rises to within 25 feet of the surface.
Outfitters: Brac Reef Resort can arrange trips to see the destroyer as well as dives on Little Cayman's Bloody Bay Wall. Details: from $95 per person for a full day, including gear.

Hotels

Brac Reef Resort
A small spa offers sea-salt body polishes, warm-algae body masks, and deep-tissue massages. Details: from $269 to $449 (three-night package) or $607 to $1,147 (seven-night package), including breakfast; +1 345 948 1323 or 800 327 3835 (U.S. and Canada).

Divi Tiara
The island's original dive resort offers boats to guests and dive licenses processed on the spot. Details: $104 to $222; +1 345 948 1553 or 800 367 3484 (U.S. and Canada).

Walton's Mango Manor
Owners Lynne and George Walton have added touches such as a banister made from the mast of a 19th-century schooner, which are reminiscent of the way the bed-and-breakfast looked in the 1930s as a sea captain's house. Details: from $80 to $100, including breakfast; +1 345 948 0518.

Restaurants

Divi Tiara and Brac Reef Resort have tasty but pricey cuisine. (Resort guests can cut costs by signing up for meal plans.)

The following restaurants offer less expensive fare:

Aunt Shaw's Kitchen
Try the homemade key lime pie. Details: $19 U.S.; +1 345 948 1581.

Tropical Delight
Try the turtle stew or roast beef smothered in gravy. Details: $15; +1 345 948 1272.

Editor's note: Hotel rates are European Plan (EP), meaning meals aren't included, unless otherwise noted; rates reflect a nightly fee unless otherwise noted. Tax and service charges are not included. Rates are subject to change during promotions and peak seasons. Restaurant prices are for an average three-course dinner, nonalcoholic drink, tax, and tip.
