Merit Award: Florent Van Dessel

Canon Rebel K2 camera and the National Geographic Photography Field Guide.

"If you do something," says 70-year-old Florent Van Dessel of Schoten, Belgium, "do it as good as possible." Applying this motto to his photography, Van Dessel attended the annual celebration of St. Hubertus at Brasschaat, near Antwerp. "Hubertus is the patron saint of hunters," he explains. "This man represents the spirit and character of the event." Perhaps blessed by St. Hubertus, Van Dessel hunted down his image—and bagged it.
