A veterinarian by profession, Katherine Feng, who lives in Durango,
Colorado, occasionally leads tours to China. Last year, during a visit to
Anhui province west of Shanghai, she and her fellow travelers arrived in
the small rural village of Jilian (formerly Hongcun). The afternoon was
overcast as Feng wandered around in search of scenes to photograph.
Looking across the pond, she noticed the housefront with the colorful
laundry, the calligraphy on the door, and the reflection in the still
water. Then the woman walked into the scene, entered the house, and a few
moments later came out again. Feng shot ten frames using her Nikon F4
camera and 35-135mm lens near the 135mm focal length. It was the body
language in this frame that I liked best, she says. The exposure was
1/125 second at f/5.6 on Fujichrome 100 film. |
