From across the Salzach River in Austria, Burghausen, Germany, looks like a classic Bavarian village with comfortable homes and inns lining the waterfront and a hilltop fortress overlooking it all. "The people in Burghausen could not have been friendlier," says photographer Brooks Walker. It was his favorite stop on the bierstrasse, or brewery trail, in "Bavaria on Tap," featured in the September 2007 issue of National Geographic Traveler. "I loved the architecture," he says, "and the fact that the locals were into jazz."
