17th Annual Photo Contest
|

RULES
WHO MAY ENTER
All readers of National Geographic Traveler, except professional photographers and National Geographic Society employees and their families.
MEDIUM
Color or black-and-white prints.
35mm color transparencies. Send duplicates of your slides not the originals.
Original transparencies and negatives must be available so winners' pictures can be published.
Photos shot with a digital camera are eligible, but you must submit a print or transparency.
An image that combines the elements of more than one photograph or has elements removed is not eligible. Minor burning, dodging, and/or color correction is acceptable.
SPECIFICATIONS
Color transparencies must be mounted in standard 2x2-inch cardboard or plastic slide mounts.
Prints may be any size up to 8x10 inches.
No glass mounts or framed photographs will be accepted.
ENTRIES
To qualify, photographs submitted must have been made in 2004 or 2005 and must not have been published.
Entries should include a model release for any recognizable people, if feasible.
You may enter up to four individual photographs.
Photographs may be any combination of color transparencies and color or black-and-white prints.
Please send duplicate transparencies, since entries will not be returned.
An official entry form must accompany the entered photograph or photographs. Print entry form »
Place your name and address on the mount of each color slide and on the back of each print.
To avoid damage, all entries should be packaged in cardboard before they're mailed.

DEADLINE
Entries must be postmarked no later than August 15, 2005.
JUDGING
Entries will be judged on the basis of creativity and photographic quality.
Winning images will be published in the January/February 2006 issue of Traveler and on our Web site.
Please do not call or e-mail us about the status of your entries. Winners will be contacted by the end of September.
AWARDS
First Prize: 14-day trip for two to Guatemala, courtesy of the Guatemala Tourist Commission, including round-trip coach-class air transportation; stops include Antigua Guatemala, Chichicastenango, Atitlán Lake, and Tikal National Park, and activities include museum tours, canopy tours, and more.
Second Prize: 6-day walking tour for two in County Kerry, Ireland, courtesy of Backroads (+1 510 527 1555 or 800 462 2848 [U.S. and Canada]), including round-trip coach-class air transportation.
Third Prize: 6-day Maine windjammer cruise for two, courtesy of North End Shipyard Schooners (800 648 4544 [U.S. and Canada]), including round-trip coach-class air transportation.
7 Merit Awards: Olympus Camedia C-770 digital camera with 10x optical zoom lens, and a copy of the National Geographic Photography Field Guide.
RESTRICTIONS
Some restrictions on travel apply.
Itineraries of trips cannot be changed.
Winners must claim their prizes and travel in the year they are awarded.
You must own all rights to any photographs entered in this contest.
It is the responsibility of the contestant to ensure that publication of the photographs by National Geographic Traveler raises no legal claims.
Winners agree to allow the National Geographic Society to publish their photographs in print or electronic form in a future issue or issues of Traveler or related Society products and to use the pictures for advertising and promotional purposes without payment.

Photographs will not be returned.
GENERAL AGREEMENT
Submission of an entry to the contest automatically constitutes the contestant's acceptance of all conditions set forth in the above rules.
Entries not complying with the above rules will be disqualified.
