n the foreground, two members of the Queen's Guard sport radio backpacks in addition to their "bearskins." The tall hats, traditional among foot guards, can be up to 80 years old and are handed down from generation to generation. The Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace takes place at 11:30 a.m. daily from March 31 to July 31, and on alternate days the rest of the year. Get here by 10 a.m. to claim a spot at the fence. "The vantage point for this photo is not generally open to the public," says van Overbeek. "I got special permission to photograph the guards from inside the gates."
