/>>Next Great Spiritual Place: The Pilgrimage Route, Kii Mountain Range, Japan

A traditional Japanese teahouse offers those walking the pilgrimage route from Tanabe to Hongu. Typical fare in the Wakayama prefecture includes sea bass, lightly pressed sushi wrapped in persimmon leaf, and fresh tuna. "The food in the area is excellent and reflects the local and seasonal tastes," says photographer Massimo Bassano.
