Merit Prize: Arnold Pouteau, New York, New York
Nikon Coolpix S-Series Camera and a Bogen National Geographic Photo Package
Before moving to the United States, Arnold Pouteau lived in Paris for 30 years. "While I was there for vacation, I decided to finally discover the city where I grew up with a fresh perspective," says Pouteau. "I went to Montmartre and decided to go all the way up the Sacre Coeur." The December day was particularly good for photography. "It was around noon, I was there alone, and there was a kind of fog surrounding the city that created a unique atmosphere." Pouteau is employed in interactive marketing and technology; he moved to New York City in early 2005. (Canon EOS Digital Rebel camera, EF-S 18-55mm zoom lens) Bogen Prize Package includes National Geographic Tundra Monopod, National Geographic Tundra Tripod with three-way head, and Earth Explorer Medium Shoulder Bag.
This year's 18th annual photo contest received nearly 15,000 entries, up from some 10,000 last year. Start polishing your skills early with one of Traveler's photo seminars and look for the announcement of our next contest in May 2007.
